Starting from 2014-15, the Education Bureau (EDB) set up the “Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students (SSE)” and “Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” Regions for Post-secondary Students (SSEBR)” to encourage and support local students to participate in exchanges programmes.

1.  Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students (SSE) (Download Application Form)

Introduction Starting from the 2014-15 financial year, the Government provides annual funding for post-secondary institutions offering full-time locally accredited sub-degree programmes to subsidise financially needy students of such programmes to participate in exchange activities.  Means-tested grant will be provided for financially needy students to participate in the eligible exchange activities.
Selection Criteria Student meet the following criteria are able to apply:

  1. enrolled in full-time higher diploma programmes of YMCA College of Careers; &
  2. in receipt of means-tested student financial assistance from Student Financial Office (SFO) of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency or whose families are in receipt of the Comphrehensive Social Security Asssistance (CSSA); &
  3. selected through a merit-based mechanism administered by the College.
Eligible Exchange Programme Only the following activities that meet the following criteria are eligible for SSE.

  1. an outbound exchange activity comprising teaching and learning elements; &
  2. orgainzed and/or endorsed by the College; &
  3. lasting for at least two weeks and are related to disciplines/ fields of studies or language immersion programmes; &
  4. the hosting institution must be a recognised institution/body in the home country.
Subsidy for Students The maximum amount of subisdy to be granted to an eligible student for participating in an exchnaged activity under SSE varies according to the destination and duration of the exchange activity.

  1. Destination (Subsidy amount from HK$3,000 to HK$15,000)
  2. Duration (Subsidy amount from HK$6,000 to HK$45,000)

For each exchange activity, the maximum amount of subsidy to be granted to the student is calulated by adding up the subsidy under the Pt (1) and Pt (2) above.

Student who have previously received assistance from other scholarships (e.g.SPSS) are also eligible to apply for assistance under the Subsidy Scheme.

Submission of Report  Student is required to submit a report after the end of the exchange activity.

 

2. Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” Regions for Post-secondary Students (SSEBR)(Download Application Form)

Introduction  Starting from July 2016, the Education Bureau (EDB) introduce this new scheme to encourage and support local students to go on exchange programmes in the “Belt and Road” Regions.  The B&R regions cover many countries/economies spanning Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Afria.
Selection Criteria  <same as the selection criteria of SSE>
Eligible Exchange Programme  Only the following activities that meet the following criteria are eligible for SSE.

  1. an outbound exchange activity comprising teaching and learning elements to be held in any B&R country or economy (Country List); &
  2. orgainzed and/or endorsed by the College; &
  3. lasting for at least two weeks and are related to disciplines/ fields of studies or language immersion programmes; &
  4. the hosting institution must be a recognised institution/body in the home country.
Subsidy for Students The maximum amount of subisdy to be granted to an eligible student for participating in an exchnaged activity under SSE varies according to the destination and duration of the exchange activity.
